Grady O’Shaughnessy
Director of Environmental Programs
grady@onepercentfortheplanet.org
After fourteen months of solo vagabonding around the world from Montana to Myanmar, Grady finally stopped moving long enough to let 1% for the Planet's mission and Vermont's pastoral surroundings captivate him.
For five and a half years prior to his navel-gazing stint on the road, Grady worked for Clif Bar & Co., the organic food company and 1% for the Planet member based in Berkeley, CA. There, he developed programs to combine the company's unique story and offerings with grassroots advocacy aimed at educating the public about a host of environmental issues ranging from the importance of renewable energy to the benefits of sustainable agriculture. Efforts included cross-country mobile marketing tours powered with bio-diesel and solar to a music program designed to reduce the environmental impact of touring musicians, venues, and fans around the country. Before his time at Clif, Grady spent a few years tending the other kind of bar from Key West to New York City to San Francisco, learning along the way that despite our many differences, we're all after the same thing: our own little slice of happiness.
Grady is now particularly interested in the role of both for- and non-profit entities in advocating for the transition to a clean energy future in the United States and around the world. When he's not thinking about energy or his next adventure, he loves to run, take photos of the Vermont countryside, and consume just about anything he can find in a bakery. He received a Bachelor of Science in Biology at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, PA and is pondering a return to academia in the future.
